I installed Word on a computer that came with Word Perfect. I then
uninstalled Word Perfect. My Word files saved in Wordpad. I was able to change that to save them as Word (thanks to this forum) but the icon still shows as the Wordpad icon not the normal Word icon. How do I change the icon to the standard Word icon? Thanks. James |

At the Start | Run prompt, type
winword /r and press Enter. Note that there is a space before the forward slash. This will reregister Word (reestablish its "ownership" of the .doc and .dot file types in the Windows Registry) and should restore the correct icon. -- Suzanne S. Thanks. James This is really a general Windows thing, not specifically for Word... In Windows Explorer, select Tools Folder Options File Types. Scroll down the list and select the DOC extension. Click the Advanced button. In the dialog that opens, click the Change Icon button at the top right. This opens another dialog; click the Browse button at the bottom. Now you get a box like the File Open dialog. Navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10 (or whatever version of Office you have), select the file WinWord.exe, and click the Open button. Back in the Change Icon dialog, select the icon you want to use from the 10 or so shown in the box, and click OK. Click OK in the remaining two dialogs. That should do it... -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |
