I have received a document that has a zillion embedded objects such as other
Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PDF's. Is there any way to print the document INCLUDING the embedded objects without having to open and print each of the objects individually. In other words, I really would like to see a full copy of the whole document with all attachments. |

Hi ?B?UmVleg==?=,
I have received a document that has a zillion embedded objects such as other Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PDF's. Is there any way to print the document INCLUDING the embedded objects without having to open and print each of the objects individually. In other words, I really would like to see a full copy of the whole document with all attachments. If the objects aren't icons, then Word should be printing them. If they are icons, you'd have to expand the inclusion so that Word can print it. If these are larger than a single page, so that Word's cutting them off, you have no option other than to open each in an application window in order to print. Hello Reez-
AFAIK, If the objects are embedded to display as icons, they must first be converted to display their content. Otherwise it is the icons that print... I gather that is what is currently happening. Especially if there are as many as you suggest, it will probably involve major revison & repagination of your document, so you might want to work in a copy rather than the original. If you post back with specific version information, someone may be able to offer a macro to help automate at least part of the process. Even so, there is the potential that if any of the objects are multipage that they will not fully display in the doc... only the first page will be viewable/printable. They will still have to be 'opened' in order to view the additional pages & you'll be right back where you started. Those will probably have to be re-inserted. Don't be too discouraged by my comments, however, 'cause there are a number of regulars in the ng that have probably tackled such a task on occasion. It may take a while for them to surface, so continue to check back for suggestions. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. You are correct in that it
is the icons that print and also correct that only the first page shows (and completly off centre if i chnage the print format). i am using Office 2003 (so thus Word 2003) and XPSP2. I fear that i will be reduced to opening and printing each icon and then having to scan them into the original document and THEN make a pdf that works. Currently the whole document is about 18 megs! And no, i do not have any idea why it was created as such. "CyberTaz" wrote: Hello Reez- AFAIK, If the objects are embedded to display as icons, they must first be converted to display their content. Thanks for taking the time to respond. This is one that has has me really
frustrated 'cause there was no real reason to create a document in this format. The document is now 18 megs! It looks like I am resigned to opening each one, printing it, perhaps attaching it properly to the original document and then creating a PDF that would work properly instead of this monstrosity. Hmmm...like I have nothing else to do. Thanks again!
