Is there a way to have manys on a network use the same normal.dot template?
I understand the normal template but not so sure on this one. 1) I would like several thave access to the same autotext entries when starting Word. 2) I would also like users to have access to the styles when starting Word. Can this be done when they start Word? Do I need to setup a file with all the autotext entries and styles that I want them to have and save this file in the Workgroup template folder? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated ! Jugglertwo |

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated ! Jugglertwo Word isn't designed to have shared access to Normal.dot -- it's supposed to be a "scratch pad" for each individual's customizations. Trying to share it causes all sorts of strange problems. Instead, see http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Macros...buteMacros.htm and treat the autotext the same way that article refers to macros -- that is, use a login script to copy the "official" add-in template to each user's Startup folder. Styles are a bit different, because add-ins don't supply styles for documents. If your workflow supports it, each distinct document type should be based on a specific template that contains specific styles, and all those templates can be stored in the Workgroup Templates location. Except for little one-off documents, no document should be based on Normal.dot. Of course, this can be hard to enforce (especially since Word seems to throw obstacles in your way). -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
