Default Fonts - Document Unreadable

Hi,

Maybe someone knows how to deal with this problem? I had several documents
created about a year ago. Now after reinstalling XP I can not read the
documents, they contain funny characters. When I try to open one of the with
Word it tries to install a converter but after installing it is still the
same.
I also saved some web pages which again could not be read in the same way
with IE.
The only international font I used before was Greek which I still have it
and can read Greek.

One other thing is that I had these documents encrypted. But now I can open
them using the certificates I have kept. Would the problem be related with
this?

I appreciate your help as its quite important loss.

George
