Default Cursor

In my former version of Word, there was a simple I-beam cursor which you
could use to insert text or make changes at the right place.
Now in Word 2003 the I-beam has little lines at the side. Does anyone know
what these are, what good they do, or even how to get rid of them? I can't
find any information in Help.

On the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Edit menu. Clear the
"Enable click and type" option, and click OK.
