Default where are documents saved when opened from the internet?

Here's the scenario:

I opened a word document from the internet (this is for a college class).
I made changes to it.
I clicked on "save."
I closed Word.

Where would that file be saved? I checked the directory listed in the File
Recovery list, but it's not there. Any suggestions?
