Default view the number of pages toolbar

I am really having a challenge. At the bottom of a Word document, above the
bottom toolbar, there is generally a bar that contains information like "the
number of pages in a document". For some reason this bar is missing. Can
anyone assist me to re-activate this toolbar?

Also, field codes are turning up where page numbers and hypertext links are
generally displayed. Is this issue related? How do I revert back to the
original Word formating?

Help.

To view the Status Bar, go to Tools | Options | View and select show Status
