Document looks different between Word 2003 and 2002--page breaks d
Hi, I transcribe on a computer that has a remote (network/Word 2003) desktop
and a local (Word 2002) desktop. I need to transcribe on the remote desktop, but when I bring up that same document on the local desktop, the type is smaller and the page would break differently if I hadn't put in manual page breaks. It's the same file, same font, same font size, yet the print on the local desktop is obviously smaller. When I send that file to the doctor's office, it also looks different (smaller) there than it does on the remote desktop here. I want the file to look right no matter where it's printed. By putting in headers and footers I can take out the manual page breaks from page 2 on. But page 1 has no header and a bigger top margin to accommodate letterhead paper. So I have two questions: 1) Why does the file look different on different computers/different Word versions? 2) Is there a way to get around the section break between page 1 and page 2 so the page will break naturally, no matter which computer prints the file? |

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm and
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/shar...matChange.html . Word does not automatically put a section break between the first and second pages, so if you have a section break there, then it's because you put it there. You could use the "Different first page" option in the File-PageSetup-Layout menu to get a different header/footer on the first page without having to insert a section break. krstnl wrote: Hi, I transcribe on a computer that has a remote (network/Word 2003) desktop and a local (Word 2002) desktop. Yes, I put the section break in because of the difference between the
letterhead and subsequent pages. But why does the document look different on different computers or different versions of Word? As I said, the font doesn't change but the look of the font does. Well, you could start by taking the section break out and using the
instructions at http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Letterhead.htm to set up the letterhead properly. As for the font, if the font used is not installed on the other computer, a resident font will be substituted? Also, does the font just look different on the display, or does it print differently, too? -- Suzanne S.
