I have been writing a lot in word and I find that when I read it back the
letters 'rn' look just like 'm'. This makes some words hard to read.

Use a different font. Times, Times Roman and Times New Roman were all
invented by the London Times news paper specifically to run the letters
closer together so they could fit more words on the page. Newspaper was
very expensive at the time :-)
