modify data on cd
I have saved a word document on a cd-rw and when i come to alter anything it
comes up as read only, i have been into properties and altered the read only, but it reappears evey time i try to modify the document. The original document on file is not read only and can be altered. Am i using the correct cd or is it not possible to save and alter on a cd. I have had a error message sometimes An error occured applying attributesto the file E:\doc name.doc Access denied |

Save the document to your hard drive and make your alterations there and then
resave it and copy it to your CD -- Carol A. Copy the file you want to edit from your cd to your hard drive. Open the
file that you just copied to the hard drive, but open it from the hard drive. Make whatever edits necessary and then save and close the file. Reburn the edited version of the file back to your CD All files on a CD are read only and you should always copy the file from the CD to a disk drive and then reburn them back to the cd following changes. -- Kevin Backmann "evandan" wrote: I have saved a word document on a cd-rw and when i come to alter anything it comes up as read only, i have been into properties and altered the read only, but it reappears evey time i try to modify the document. modify data on cd
If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act
as if your floppy drive does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as well.) Don't use Word to: Open a document on a floppy Print a document on a floppy Edit a document on a floppy Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy) Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives! Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth using Windows. I know that for some with shared computers (libraries, schools) this is a tough prescription. All I can recommend for that is to use a brand new formatted disk each time you save and don't do any editing. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. You will however have to remove the read-only flag when you have copied the
file to your hard drive before opening it to edit it. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Kevin B wrote: Copy the file you want to edit from your cd to your hard drive.
