Why am I asked to save changes to Word doc I viewed but did not ch
I open the document, make no changes and try to close it; I am prompted to
save changes. This is annoying and causes me problems synchronising versions of files e.g. in briefcase. I recently installed a newer version of Word (2003) but this does not happen only once the first time it is opened by the newer version, but repeatedly with oft-changed documents. |

Why am I asked to save changes to Word doc I viewed but did not ch
The most common reasons are --
1. a DATE field in the document: this updates to the current date/time whenever the document is opened. In most cases you actually want a CREATEDATE field anyway. 2. Printing the document: this updates the 'date last printed' property. 3. A macro that queries the DocumentProperties collection. Merely reading a document property by macro makes Word think that the document has changed. (These is easy to remedy within the same macro code.)
