I recently installed Word 2003 on a friends laptop where he was previously
running works (its a very recent version though im not sure which)

I converted all the .WPS files in the normal manner with no problem.

However he has 2 very large WPS word processing docs (49Mb) these are his
dissertation and contain several pictures visable when you open them in Works.

However when i attempted to convert them word stopped responding..which i
thought may be because of hardware limitations.
But when i took a copy in to work to use on my workstation there which has
dual xeon processors in and 1GB memory, i got the same result.

any ideas anyone..im a bit stuck

Get him to split the files into smaller units and then try and convert them.
