Default Bolding words causes them to become invisable

Hi - this is actually a problem my dad is having at his office, so I'm
not certain what he might have inadvertently done to his style sheet
that is causing this problem. Here is what he wrote me (since I can't
add the bold he used I've added html tags to show where he bolded
words):

"The bolded text in my documents is invisible unless I put my cursor on
the blank area where the text belongs and hit tab, in which case the
bolded text reappears. However, it disappears when I move back to the
unbolded text.

I am going to bold the next three words bas an example/b. The
space became blank as soon as I hit bold. But it came back when I
resumed typing. I then saved it and it disappeared when I opened the
file again.

I am going to set the format/font for bold and type three words after
the colon: bone two three/b.

I closed and reopened, no text."

He checked, and the bolding is not turning the words white.

Would restoring Word defaults fix this problem? (Not that I know how to
do that.)

Many, many, many thanks for any help anyone can give me - I will be my
dad's hero if I can find him a solution for this.

Best,

Justine

Justine,

Ask dad if the text when missing will print (i.e., print the document
with the text missing). If so, then I would say the problem is his
video display adapter driver

Have him check display adapter manufacturer's (or computer
manufacture's) web site
for an update.

P.S., If experience counts for anything, then I would say that you
probably are already your dad's hero ;-)

Perhaps the bold variant of the font is missing or damaged?

Thanks so much both of you, I"ve sent both suggestions to my dad for
testing. If it's the font, I'll go into some of the other topics to
find how to fix it, since I know quite a few people have posted about
missing or damaged fonts.
