Default Can a saved doc be retrived to earlier save version?

I open doc A with the intention of save as doc B, & make changes. But I made
the changes, saved it several times before I realized that I did not used the
save as feature. I have lost doc A. Can doc A be open as it was originally
save a few days back? I have been saving my docs with no extra save feature
provided in Word 2003.
Please help, and advance thanks.

I'm thinking you can only retrieve it if you have some sort of backup system
where you can retrieve the earlier version.

If you had realized *before* closing the doc you could have used Undo, but
I'm guessing it's too late for that.

If you were not using Track Changes or Versions & did *not* have a backup of
the original, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

To help avoid such problems in the future, open the source file by clicking
the arrow(triangle) on the right edge of the Open button in the Open dialog
box & select Open Read Only or Open As Copy.
