I'm unable to go back a letter using the left arrow key. I've looked in the
options and settings but couldn't find anything relevant. |

Not surprised that you found nothing in Options as the standard operation of
the Left & Right Arrow keys is to move the Insertion Point 1 char. at a time in those respective directons. The exception being the keys on the Numeric Keypad if you have the NumLock off - in which case those keys would enter the numbers 4 & 6, respectively. What version of Word & Windows are you using & what *does* happen when you press the arrow keys? Dot the key work as expected in other programs? -- Regards |:) Bob Jones [MVP] Office:Mac "Omair-T" wrote in message ... I'm unable to go back a letter using the left arrow key. Hi,
Thanks for your interest in the problem. As you asked, I'm using Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.6568.6568) SP2 on Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2. And the Down, Right and Up arrow keys work perfectly fine it is just the Left arrow key that does not function. I am sure that my keyboard is not faulty because I can use it fine while operating other applications; just not in MS Word. Once again, thanks a lot for your interest. Regards Omair-T |

Then it would appear that you have somehow customized that key in Word. As a
diagnostic, try renaming normal.dot (with Word closed) and opening Word. Does the key work now? Please write back even if it does because there will be more work to do. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! No the key still doesn't work. It does as it used to in conjunction with CTRL
or Shift but not on it's own. |

Open Tools | Customize and click on Keyboard... In the "Press new shortcut
key" box (for any command), press the left arrow. If "Currently assigned to" shows anything other than CharLeft, you need to find that command and remove the assignment. If it shows nothing, then look for CharLeft under All Commands and assign the left arrow to it. -- Suzanne S.
