Outlines
What is the difference in using the Outline Numbering feature under Format,
Bullets and Numbering, the Outline View (Demote and Promote levels), or Styles (Headings 1-9)? Does it matter if you create an Outline with Outline Numbering and then switch to the Outline View? Or are they two separate features? Thanks |

Outlines
Outline view shows the structure of a document (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UsingOLView.htm), but it does not actually create an outline (numbered or otherwise). If all your heading styles were formatted the same as Normal style, then the outline in Normal or Print Layout view would look like a bunch of identical paragraphs. Although you can apply outline numbering to paragraphs that *are* in the same style, this is not recommended. For the preferred way to apply outline numbering, see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html -- Suzanne S.
