Is there any way for a USA Word 2000 user to type in French? I know the
spell checker can check French spelling, but this user wants the accented characters. Thanks, Craig. |

You need to install the French keyboard and French language support from the Control Panel: Control Panel Regional and Language Support Languages Details Settings Add In the "Input Language" menu choose the flavor of French that is wanted. In the "Keyboard Layout" menu choose "French". Apply/OK your way back out. A reboot helps make things permanent. I have my system set up so that the left-shift + left-alt combo toggles between my two input languages and keyboard layouts. You can set that up from the "Language Bar" and "Key Settings" buttons on the Settings page. -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com |

The best thing is to get a Canadian keyboard: it's plain QWERTY (unlike the French AZERTY kbd) and features an extra key to type all the accentuated letters. -- Virez Ahmadinejad pour me répondre. The hardware (keyboard) alone won't do it so far as I know. You have to install the language and keyboard support in Windows as well for the keyboard's keys to be properly recognized. -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com |

Hi Craig,
Is there any way for a USA Word 2000 user to type in French? I know the spell checker can check French spelling, but this user wants the accented characters. If the user doesn't want to change their keyboard layout (I rarely do!), the accented characters can be typed using Word's built-in shortcuts. Search there term "international characters" in Word's Help and you should turn up a list.
