Tools, Language, Set Language
Start, Program, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings It is important to note: Language is assigned to text and therefore, text which comes from other sources whereby the dictionary has not been set as UK may change to US or another language when opened. Hope this helps? "Thangam" wrote: THe spell check keeps returning to US English and I am working in the UK and need it to stick to UK English. Did you also turn off the automatic detection of languages in Word?

Tools Language Set Language - uncheck automatically detect. Text retains
its own proofing attributes so if you import formatted text from (say) the internet, you will also import those proofing attributes. Make sure the Windows regional settings are fixed at UK English. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Thangam wrote: THe spell check keeps returning to US English and I am working in the UK and need it to stick to UK English. no, thanks for this and it may help with other documents, but these are all
ones I created myself and, I thought, using English UK, but no matter what I do, and I have followed all instructions I have found so far, the default keeps going back to English US, so in a sense, maybe you are right and my document got created in US English, but I can't stop this from happening and it drives me crazy! Thanks for your advice, much appreciated. I have followed all the instructions in this link and still the language
keeps changing back to US English. Any further advice would be much appreciated! Thanks for your help. "Stefan Blom" wrote: Did you also turn off the automatic detection of languages in Word? Well, as noted in the article, the fix is primarily for new documents.
For existing ones, you may have to resort to manually specifying the correct language from ToolsLanguageSet Language. Alternatively, paste the contents (except for the final paragraph mark) into a new document, which has correct language settings. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Thangam" wrote in message ... This has been driving me mad too, and no help in Help - a US conspiracy
perhaps. However, if you go to the box at the bottom of the word window which says "English" which is next to the "OVR" (overstrike) box, you can click and open a language setting box which has a default button. I've just set it to English (UK). Let's see what happens the next time I switch the computer on. Hope it works for you. PS. Have pity on me. I also have a Macintosh, where everything is hidden in different places, must be done in reverse or upside down AND in Martian.
