Word often takes a lot of memory. I have seen it hang and crash with
insufficient memory and a large document.
Check to see if you are doing a lot of page swappinng & memory usage when
Word is running, If this is the case you have some options:

1. Buy more memory.
2. Create smaller documetts and print them separatly.
3. Create a master document that links to the sub documents. - This is a
little messy. See your help files in word.

Word 2003 has a repair section in the HELP tool, and in the Control Pannel
- Microsoft Word CHANGE button of the "Add or Remove programs" If there is
a problem this may handle it.
Alternately, try uninstalling, then reinstalling WORD, then download the
updates from Microsoft. You will default your settings on a reinstall.
Be sure to back up your data files if you have intermixed it with any of the
program files. This may be the easiest and cheapest action as a starter.
