Default Activate Boiler Macro in Word 2003 for combing multiple documents

Back to combining 35 chapters and 180 separate documents into one. I read
Idiot's guide to installing Macros, but I obviously need sth for people with
lower IQs. Then I read the Boiler doc. and followed the editing instructions
and put the template into "C:\Program\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\". But now I
don't know what to do or how to use it or even if it works. I've spent 4
hours getting almost no where. Is there children's guide to installing and
running macros? Sigh!
