Default can file deleted itself?

Hi,
We're using shared files in our office. Couples days ago, we found out that
some files just disappeared. The computer guy in our department tracked down
and said that I was the one, who deleted the files. I don't remember
deleting any file. I would like to know if the files can deleted
themselves? Or could I delete them accidently without knowing it? Or does
the computer ALWAYS ask to whether or not "are you sure you want to delete
the file"? Please help!!
thanks,
P.

The "Display delete confirmation dialog" box is a Windows option
that can be turned on or turned off.
