Default I cannot open folders in word , it's WordPad MFC Application

I used to be able to open multiple files at the same time from a folder in My
Documents [Or Any Folder], now it opens in WordPad as default. I cannot
change the default. I have to go to open with...
I get 2 selections Word & WordPad MFC Application
