Default Protect Document feature - greyed out

Someone in my office created a Word doc with tables and sent it to someone
outside of the office to fill in. We got the doc back (which was supposed to
have been protected before it was sent out) but doesnt look like it was.
However, when I open the document and select €śProtect Document€ť to protect it
for future use, the €śFormatting Restrictions, Editing Restriction and Start
Enforcement€ť are greyed out in the Task Pane. From what I can see, there is
no security set for this document. Any suggestions? Im on Word 2003.

If you go to File/Save As, which file type is preselected? Is it Word document, or
something else (like RTF)?

Hi ?B?c3RlcGhhbmll?=,

It's a Word doc.

Mmmm. If you copy/paste everything but the last paragraph mark into a new document does that
"unblock" it?
