Update to what?

If you go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx and click
the "Check for updates" link in the upper right, the web site will let
you download any service packs and security updates that are available
for your installed version.

If you want to update to a later version, you'll have to buy the
software. You can find an "upgrade" package that's less expensive than
the "full" package. This is available in office-product stores, online
outlets such as Amazon.com, and in college bookstores, among other
places.

Currently the only later version is 2003, but the 2007 version is now
in beta testing and will be available for sale in a few months. You
can try it at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/prev...px?showIntro=n.
