Default Slow File opening

Have very slow opening of a doc each time. In event viewer, I am getting a
crypt32 error:
"Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list sequence number from:
http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt
with error: This operation returned because timeout period expired."
ech time a file is accessed. Any ideas gratefully received
