I cannot open files that people send to me through a Blackberry. When I try
to open them in Word or Excel, I get a file conversion dialogue box which
sees it as some kind of text file that needs to be converted.

Another computer in my office has no difficulty opening these files.

It depends on the program that the file's originator is using.
