Default Reading layout (Word) messes up page numbers in TOC

When I open a Word document attached to an email in Outlook it opens the
document in the reading layout. In the reading layout the Table of Content
page numbers appear correctly. When the reading layout is closed, however,
the page numbers are all changed to "2s". Turning the reading layout "off"
takes care of this problem, but I'd like to be able to use the reading layout
and know that the document will not be affected.

FWIW, the TOC will be fine if you just update it (F9).
