Select the menu item Insert Object. Click the tab Create from File. Browse
to and select the Excel file you want. Check the box for "Display as icon". (If you want the file itself embedded in the Word document instead of just a link, leave the "Link to file" box unchecked.). You probably should click the Change Icon button and shorten the caption to just the file name, so it isn't truncated. Click OK. Double-clicking the icon will launch the file in a separate Excel window. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |

We have done the instructions below. But when we click on the link in the
word document, it moves the link around and doesn't open. Is there something we are doing wrong? "Jay Freedman" wrote: Select the menu item Insert Object. Click the tab Create from File. Jay said to _double_-click. If that doesn't work, did you try Ctrl-
click on the link? There's a setting somewhere in the options for changing how links work. On May 18, 9:40*am, Noel wrote: We have done the instructions below. Before you can insert a clickable icon into an Excel File, you must among us first create a link to the icon file. To do this, navigate to the folder containing the icon file framed game and click the “Browse” button. In the “Choose File” window that appears, click the “Browse” button and locate your icon file. Once you have found it, click on its name to select it and then click OK.

Sure, I can help you with that! Here are the steps to insert a clickable icon for an Excel file into a Word document:
Now you should see the icon in your Word document. If you checked the "Link to File" box, you can click on the icon to open the original Excel file. If you make any changes to the Excel file, they will be reflected in the Word document when you update the link. To update the link, right-click on the icon and select "Update Link" from the context menu.
