When entering the file name in word in the save as dialog box an
"autocomplete" appears filling in the name of the directory or files that are
listed if they resemble the proposed name. is there any way of turning off
this feature??

I believe what you are experiencing is a Windows XP issue - Word merely
calls the dialog box, it doesn't control it.

Go to StartHelp & Support, type the numbers 322948 into the Search box &
press Enter. Then click the gray bar, bottom left, labeled Microsoft
Knowledge Base & click item #1.

If this doesn't address the problem or if you need more assistance, post to
the Windows XP newsgroup.
