Hi all,

I've been recently trying to password protect a Word file (for opening), but
whenever I do, it simply fails to work and does not require a password for
opening. I'm using Word 2002 SP3 (10.6804.6811) & Win XP Home SP2 (5.1.2600
Build 2600). I have recently updated via the respective websites both Word
(well Office) & Win XP with all the necessary bug fixes & security patches
etc.

But still nothing! Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Any help would be appreciated!

Chances are, you are saving the document in a format other than Word
Document. Use FileSave As on the menu, and look to see what format you are
actually saving the document in. Only Word Document format supports
passwords.

John, you are an absolute genius! I was infact saving the document as an .RTF
which of course not only doesn't allow passwording, but also takes up a
massive amount of unneccessary space compared to .DOC.
