Default Save Word 2003 back to Word 2000

I need to save Word 2003 documents back to Word 2000 format for compatibility
with a legacy application. The only option available under Save As Document
Type is a version of RTF that applies a .doc extension. This format doesn't
work. I need a way to save in native Word 2K format. Any help?

Didn't find anything relevant via search.

Thanks,
David

Default Save Word 2003 back to Word 2000

Word 2000 and Word 2003 .doc files have the same basic file
format, so there should be no need to save as a different format.
You just need to avoid using features available in Word 2003
that are not available in Word 2000. In Word 2003, click on
Tools | Options | Save tab | check the "Disable features
introduced after" box and choose Word 2000 | OK.

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work, though. The legacy app is still
finding a difference between the file formats. When I followed your
instructions, I get the same error about a Word import filter unable to
process the .doc file saved in Word 2003. Has MS really given us no way to
save back in the *exact* format of the earlier version?
