Save Word 2003 back to Word 2000
I need to save Word 2003 documents back to Word 2000 format for compatibility
with a legacy application. The only option available under Save As Document Type is a version of RTF that applies a .doc extension. This format doesn't work. I need a way to save in native Word 2K format. Any help? Didn't find anything relevant via search. Thanks, David |

Save Word 2003 back to Word 2000
Word 2000 and Word 2003 .doc files have the same basic file
format, so there should be no need to save as a different format. You just need to avoid using features available in Word 2003 that are not available in Word 2000. In Word 2003, click on Tools | Options | Save tab | check the "Disable features introduced after" box and choose Word 2000 | OK. Save Word 2003 back to Word 2000
Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work, though. The legacy app is still
finding a difference between the file formats. When I followed your instructions, I get the same error about a Word import filter unable to process the .doc file saved in Word 2003. Has MS really given us no way to save back in the *exact* format of the earlier version?
