You can select the text and type; what you are typing should replace
the selection, assuming that "Typing replaces selection" is checked on
the Edit tab of Tools | Options.

Alternatively, you can activate overtype mode by pressing the Insert
key. In this mode, characters are replaced, one by one, as you type.
Press the Insert key again to turn off overtype.

If you need more assistance, post back.

I have tried to press the insert key and it does not work as far as typing
over the text, I will attempt the other method that you suggested and we'll
go from there, but if you have any ideas on how to get the insert key to
"turn on" that would be great.

If the Insert key doesn't do this, it may have been disabled. Try
doubleclicking OVR on the status bar.
