Default Tick box in a Word document

I am trying to put a tick box in a Word template so that users can tick the
appropriate box before printing the document.

I can place a check box in a Word form but the form has to be locked for the
check box to be active. It does not look good and presents other problems
with editing the document. Or I can insert a symbol but that implies that the
user is capable of doing so. Both of which are cumbersome.

I do want a tick box that users can simply point and click. So, is there a
way to do so?

many thanks

The best you can manage without protecting for forms is a box that has to be
double-clicked (using a MacroButton field). See
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/add_check_boxes.htm or
http://www.gmayor.com/Macrobutton.htm

There are a number of ways to create and use clickable checkboxes in
documents / templates. Some require protected or locked forms, others do
not. Take a look at the Checkbox template available at
http://www.addbalance.com/word/downl...#CheckboxAddIn for an exploration
of these.
