Default mailmerge document

Is there a way to create multiple files from the original mailmerge..like
when a new document is created could I possible save it as a doc file with
the new name from the data source for that record. ie rec1, rec2, rec3,
rec4......when I mailmerge these will it be possible to split them into new
doc files with the rec1.doc, rec2.doc,rec3.doc, rec4.doc names?

thanks

See the "Individual Merge Letters" item on fellow MVP Graham Mayor's website
at:

http://www.gmayor.com/individual_merge_letters.htm

If you are using Word XP or later, the "Add-in to Merge Letters to Separate
Files" that I have written and that can be downloaded from that site will
allow you to create each letter as a separate file with a filename taken
from a field in the data source with a minimum of fuss.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Doug-
I downloaded the dot template from that site and it seemed to work fine but
when I go to look at the final product I get the message that one of the
tables is corrupt and the formatting of the final letter is all
wrong....otherwise it did the individual file names as stated. Any idea what
is causing my table to become corrupt and why the formatting is wrong?

Thanks Wayne

I don't know about the table problem, but for the formatting, you may need
to modify the code in the add-in so that the new documents that are created
are created from the same template as that used to create the mailmerge main
document.

In the Private Sub app_MailMergeAfterMerge(ByVal Doc As Document, ByVal
DocResult As Document) sub-routine in the MergeApplication Class Module, use
the following (modified for your circumstances)

Set NewDoc = Documents.Add(Template:="c:\documents and
settings\doug robbins\application data\microsoft\templates\main.dot",
Visible:=False)

in place of

Set NewDoc = Documents.Add
