Default drop-down menu in a table

It appears that I have to 'protect' my drop-down menu in my Word 2003
document, but that doesn't then allow my other text table fields to be able
to be typed in. ?? When I 'unprotect', the drop-down menu arrows/capability
appear to be lost.

You need to insert form fields wherever you want to permit text entry. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm and especially
the forms tutorials by Dian Chapman that this article links to.
