Text selection
If I have text in word and I highlight it with my mouse, it will not be
deleted when i hit backspace, nor will it disappear when I type another letter, as it should. Is there a setting or a button I messed with inadvertantly? |

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Typing replaces

Did you try:
