WORD 2007 is not updating my caption references numbers with either the
"select all" then F9 nor with the quit and reopen alternative. It does update the reference numbers if I right-click on the reference and select update field. This problem occurs with files I converted from WORD 2003 and also in a test file I created within WORD 2007. I will explain the test file. After selected New to create a new file, I pasted in a figure. I right-clicked on the figure and selected insert caption. The caption reads "Figure 1" Below the caption I entered some text and then did a crossreferece to Figure 1 so "Figure 1" now appears in the body of my text. I then Pasted in a new figure ahead of the previous figure. I repeated the right-click on the figure to create a caption for this figure. The first figure's caption now reads "Figure 1" and the previous caption now reads "Figure 2". That works. The reference in my text reads "Figure 1" even though it should read "Figure 2" I do a select all, and F9 and the reference still, incorrectly reads "Figure 1". I saved in both the .doc and .docx formats, reopened the document, and the reference still reads, "Figure 1" when it should read "Figure 2". I right-click on the incorrect figure reference and select "update field". The caption reference now correctly reads "Figure 2". When I toggle the field code for this caption reference, it reads, "{REF _Ref159224052\h}" The process, as I described it, worked fine for hundreds of caption references in the previous version of WORD. |
