I am trying to edit my word documents in Office 2007. But when I try to type,
the bottom of the screen says that "modification is not allowed because the selection is locked"....How do I unlock this? |

May depend on a few variables, but on the View tab's right end is a Protect
Document button. You may be able to click that to select a command which produces the Task Pane, then click the button at the bottom of it to Stop Protection... unless a password has been applied. I don't even have the ability to use that feature on the view menu, which is
why I don't understand how something could be locked. Are the other ways in which a password or any type of locking could have been done? If so how do I undo them? Are you working with an expired Trial version of '07?
If a full version has it been activated? Do you get any prompts when you open the file which indicate it is "Read Only"? What does it say in the Title Bar? Anything about Compatibility Mode? Did you create the file or was it created by someone else? -- Regards |:) Bob Jones [MVP] Office:Mac "rcharris922" wrote in message ... I am using Word 2003. I put documents to a CD rom and cannot edit them now.
I have set up a password, what parts can be edited (all of it) and whatever else necessary and I still cannot edit my documents. What do I do now? -- Linda In North Carolina "rcharris922" wrote: I am trying to edit my word documents in Office 2007. You should have submitted this as a NEW message rather than as a reply to
the other - it really is a different issue ![]() Files copied to a CD are automatically "locked" (actually, designated as Read Only) and you shouldn't even try to open them directly from the CD (or any other removable media). Copy them to your hard drive, then right-click the file, select Properties from the shortcut menu & remove the Read Only check. Also, don't try to *save* directly to removable media, either. Do your work on the hard drive then copy to the CD. HTH |:) Bob Jones [MVP] Office:Mac On 4/14/07 5:04 PM, in article , "Linda" wrote: I am using Word 2003. ![]() I had the same problem with word 2007. When CyberTaz asked "are you working with a full version of word that has not been activated?" I realised I hadn't yet activated my word 2007 program and once I did it I could magically unlock the page and type on it. -- Lucy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lucy's Profile: http://www.officehelp.in/members/6980/lucy View this thread: http://www.officehelp.in/1360080/unlock-a-selection http://www.officehelp.in |

Click the Office button (looks like a pizza - top left of the screen). Word
Options Resources Activate Microsoft Office. If it is already activated and the trial has expired (you only get one trial period, no matter how many times you download it) then you will have to buy the program. If you intend to buy it, buy the disc from a reseller, rather than the key on line. It will probably be cheaper and you will also get the disc, should you need to reinstall at any time. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Dark Princess wrote: Hi Cybertaz l have the same problem how can l unlock it l downloaded the trial version and its says its locked can anyone help me please??
