Default How do I type french symbols? ie: accents

I need to know how to type the backwards and forwards accent...as well as the
^ above a letter for a document that I am typing in French. I know that you
use ALT and then a number. There should be a list somewhere...but I can't
locate it.

You can also select the Arial Unicode MS font. Choose Symbols from the
Insert menu and scroll to the character that you want.

Most of them are CTRL+ the nearest symbol, then the character. Grave accent
is ctrl-left quote, circumflex is ctrl-shift-6, cedilla is control-comma,
etc. You can also get there -- and do the wierd ones -- through Insert
Symbol, select (normal text) as the font.

This is way overkill. All the characters needed to type in French are
available in all common Unicode fonts (indeed, even in the old-fashioned
ASCII ones).
