Default Word 2003 Abnormal Program Termination

When I start up Word 2003 I get an abnormal program termination. Sometimes
it happens when I open Word and sometime it happens when I open a document,
but it happens virtually all of the time. I would like to achieve fixing this
problem. The information about the error is as follows:

The window that pops up when the error occurs is a box with the heading in
the title bar that reads: Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library.

There is a big round circle with an "X" inside. The message in the box
says: Debug Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11|WINWORD.EXE

abnormal program termination

(Press Retry to debug the application)

[Buttons a] Abort Retry Ignore

[Abort ends the program, Ignore ends the program, Selecting Retry 4 times
allows the program to continue but then I cannot paste anything afterwards.
Cut functions still works and I can copy and paste into the notepad but not
into a word document.
