Ordinarily the dialog box opens with the last-used choice.

Thank you
Is there any way (Macro??) or any other way that I can make the dialog box
allways open with the all file types selected?
I find the way it works i.e. the last type a real pain.

Hope you can help me.

If you want it always to be All Files, then why would any other type be the

Default Can I set All File types as default in open?

Hi
I often save emails as text or save web pages.
If I open the text file and edit it and save it, I have finished with text
files.
If I then want to work on a HTML or a word doc when I open the dialog box
all I get is the text files and I have to reselect the file type I want.
Call me lazy if you like but if it allways opened in all file type I have
access to all types all the time without the bother of have to change after
ever different type.

Regards Dave

The file type selected in the Open dialog should not be dependent on the
file type selected in the Save As dialog. Are you saying that they are
linked? I'm not seeing that (although my default setting is All Word
Documents).

Default Can I set All File types as default in open?

Hi
The default is all word documents. I can find no way to change this.
If I open the dialog and all word docs are shown, I have to select all files
types to be able to see text and html files.
If I select a text file and then save it or save as text. The next time I
open the dialog box it is on text file types and I have to reselect All File
types to see all files.
If I close Word after saving a text file, when I restart Word and open the
dialog box it opens with text as the file type. I find this a real pain. I
want to be able to access any file type without this constant reselection to
all file types.
If it is not possible to alter this behaviour then I am stuck with it.
I was hoping somebody would have the answer.

Regards Dave

Default Can I set All File types as default in open?

Hello
Your description of how Word worked for you made me think again about how it
worked for me. I have investigated and have found that another program I had
running was causing my problems. When closing it down Word worked as you
described and keeps the All file Type Selection. Thank you for your help in
pointing me to the solution.

The other program was one I used to add functions to Word 2000.

Thanks again, Regards Dave

I'm glad you found the problem. Add-ins often do cause the behavior of Word
to change in undesirable ways.
