Default Symbol Fonts

My son created a lengthy school project using IRIS font, which we now realize
is a symbol font. Now the spell check doesn't work and the words don't wrap
correctly when we change margins. The "replace font" function on the tool
bar will not change the font back to any of the regular fonts, such as times
new roman. Any suggestions on how we can get back to a regular font?

Thanks so much for the good direction. It worked! I was able to copy the
macro from the article and run it on my son's files to convert back to
another font. Thanks for pointing out the article. My searches on the
Microsoft site had not found it.

Suzanne's answer worked for me too - thanks Suzanne. I use Word 2003 and if
you check the box "List font names in their font" in Tools, Customize,
Options, then in the font drop down list you see a number of fonts listed
which have, next to the font name, ABCDEFGHIJ in that font. The problem you
describe applies to all these fonts. However, I did not really want to look
for another font, preferring the one I had chosen (Ellis). I had the problem
you describe that words were split arbitrarily at the RH margin. As you say,
you cannot Edit Replace the font. To get a reasonable word wrap, this is what
I did.
Select a space between two words. In Edit Replace, "Find what" then contains
an odd large white square. Type with the spacebar a space in "Replace with"
and give it the font Times New Roman. Then Replace All.
The document now wraps words properly. This solution to the word wrapping
problem with this type of font worked for me and enabled me to print off a
document quickly. I don't know if there are other side-effects.
