Default fields in headers or footers

I have a form that is used in education. I have inserted a reference field
on each page so that student name does not have to be typed each time. The
first time typed, automatically on each page. The problem I am facing, as
this is a locked form, that some teachers are rather long winded, (notice my
message?) hence, text will create a new page, but the reference, naturally,
does not follow to the next page. I thought that creating the field in the
header would be a better idea, as everytime a new page is started, student
name is automatically created, but, I can't seem to get it to work in the
header. Advice in how to make my dream come true is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Unfortunately REF fields in page headers don't update automatically in
protected documents, nor can you update fields manually without unprotecting
the document, which requires a macro, which is rarely an acceptable solution
for forms that are distributed to others.

Luckily, however, you can accomplish what you want with a StyleRef field.
See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm.
