I have converted a file from 2000 doc to docx. It has hyperlinks to a doc.
How can I transfer the hyperlinks from the old doc to the new docx... or
should I? Are there advantages?

You mean, whether to change the hyperlink path to a different name?

A fairly simple way is to open the document with the links. Press Alt+F9 to
display all the field codes. Then use Find/Replace to look for .doc and
replace with .docx - you just have to determine whether "Replace all" would
be too dangerous. Alt+F9 when you're finished to turn off the field codes.

Note that this will NOT change the displayed text of the hyperlinks, in case
you've used the file path as the display text. That, you'd have to change
manually or by using a macro.

As far as I know, there are no particular advantages or disadvantages beyond
whether your working environment would have a reason for one file format to
be an advantage over the other. That's not something we can judge...
