I have forgotten how to do the following.
I am compiling a professional journal with - for this issue - three articles. Total page length is c.80pp. There will also be prelims and endmatter. Each of the articles has end notes and a bibliogrpahy. The 'insert break' feature is disabled with the end notes displayed, ie in Print View. If I scroll to the end of the text - that is before the end notes - and then insert the next article the end notes appear at the end of the second article and both sets are incorporated. That is, if article 1 has 50 end notes and article 2 has 20, all 70 are combined. How do I insert the second & third articles while retaining the end notes for each article in their proper place? cheers, Bob Nicholls |

Specify that the endnotes should be placed at the end of each section.
Insert section breaks as needed. If you have more than one section break in a given article, you can suppress endnotes for every section but the last (Layout tab of Page Setup). -- Suzanne S. VMT Suzanne,
I must be particularly stupid today. The problem is: Each article goes text -- end notes -- biblio. Then, what I would like to do is to place the next article If I put the cursor at the end of the bibliography I can't insert a break (the box is grey/gray) I can't place a section break between the end notes and the biblio either. If I put the cursor at the end of the text and insert a break then insert the next article the endnotes all run on I have specified that the end notes should be placed at the end of each section. -----Original Message----- Specify that the endnotes should be placed at the end of each section. VMT Suzanne,
What is VMT? I must be particularly stupid today. The problem is: Each article goes text -- end notes -- biblio. Then, what I would like to do is to place the next article If I put the cursor at the end of the bibliography I can't insert a break (the box is grey/gray) Did you type this bibliography yourself, or was it generated by a program like EndNote? I can't place a section break between the end notes and the biblio either. I have a strong suspicion that you typed the biblio in "endnote space" and that Word considers the entire biblio part of an endnote. (this can't happen if you use Normal View) If I put the cursor at the end of the text and insert a break then insert the next article the endnotes all run on Did you finish that sentence? Anyhow, go to File | Page Setup, Layout tab, (with cursor in an early section) and make sure "suppress endnotes" is not checked for any section. The proper place to put the section break is after the text, but if you want the biblio after the notes, you will need another section break between notes and biblio. I have specified that the end notes should be placed at the end of each section. You may want to switch to Normal View, and then Word will hide the endnotes from you and you don't have to worry about them, it can make it easier. That will also tell you whether the biblio is in endnote space, if it vanishes. What your final product should be: Article text, then section break, then biblio, another section break, text of next article...and so forth. Set endnotes to end of section, make sure "suppress endnotes" is not checked anywhere, and Word will put them after the article text in each case. -- Daiya Mitchell, MVP Mac/Word Word FAQ: http://www.word.mvps.org/ MacWord Tips: http://www.word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/ What's an MVP?
