Default How do I set up a style so my acronyms are smaller than reg font?

My company uses a style where the body of the text is in 12 pt Garamond font
but words that are in all caps (such as acronyms) need to be in 10 pt
Garamond font. We have been doing this manually and I would like to see if
it is possible to set up a formatting style that would do this as
automatically as we type. I tried setting up a regular formatting style but
it would only give me one option in terms of font size. Help please!

I would suggest that you define a character style that is Default Paragraph
Font + Small Caps. Note that you will have to type the text in lowercase
before applying the Small Caps formatting.

I think you'll find that Word's Small Caps formatting is equivalent to
reducing the font size by an equivalent percentage. Neither approach
actually has the same result as using true small caps that are part of a
font (which are designed to be the same weight as the full-size text), but
it's the best you can get unless you have a Small Caps version of Garamond.

To add to the advice that Suzanne gives... if you have a pat list of
acronyms you use, you could create formatted AutoCorrect entries to
automatically convert them to the desired formatting each time any one of
them is typed. That way, the writer wouldn't have to remember to apply a
style each time an acronym is typed.
