Default Appendix cross referencing

I have followed the instructions regarding setting up styles in word to
provide Appendix A, Appendix B Appendix C etc. at level 7 in the numbered
list. All seems to work ok until I use a cross reference to those appendices
in the document.

When I do this the appendix numbered item is preceded by the last numbered
item used before the first appendix - e.g. "11.3.1Appendix A", where 11.3.1
would be that last numbered item used.

I am not using section breaks between the body of the document and the
appendices (and I dont think this going to solve in any case).

Any ideas on how to fix?

What kind of cross-reference are you inserting? Note that you cannot use
"Paragraph number (full context)" when appendix numbering is created via
lower-level heading styles, such as Heading 7.

Thanks Stefan.

I need something that will say "Appendix B" - I have tried a few
alternatives in the cross reference type but not with any luck

The following should work: For "Reference type," choose "Heading," select the
appropriate heading in the "For which heading" box, and for "Insert reference
to," choose "Heading number (no context)".
