Default Automatic changing of words

I have a manual that has a table of contents outlining the diagrams (i.e.
Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3.... Figure 55)
I find that I am often changing the Figure no. later on in the document and
i was wondering if there was a way that if I change Figure 33 to Figure 32
that all subsequent Figures would automatically be moved one number ahead
along with all the changes made to Table of Contents.
This might seem fanciful, but i was hoping there was something built into
Word to allow me to do that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Default Automatic changing of words

If you have inserted the captions using Insert | Reference | Caption, then
the numbers are SEQ fields that, though they will not update automatically,
will update when you update fields (and so will the Table of Figures).
