Autosave a document in Word Xp ?
I cannot get Word XP to "Autosave" a document I have set "save in background"
mode on and set interval for autorecover save info to 1 min, but just will not appear to autoSave my documents when working on them? Any ideas would be welcome! |

There is no autosave feature in Word of the type that you are trying to
implement. I would suggest that you return the auto-recover save interval to at least the default 10 minutes otherwise, it may become a nuisance. It's function is to allow you to recover an open document in the event of abnormal termination of the program - like the power fails. Once you close a document, the autorecover save file for it that Word creates is deleted. For normal saving, you have to do it yourself. -- Please respond to the Newsgroup for the benefit of others who may be interested. There isn't a built-in AutoSave option in Word. AutoRecover is for
'emergency use only'. If Word should happen to crash or if you lose power the AutoRecover saved version of the document will be available the next time you start Word. A Background save means you want to continue working instead of waiting for the save to complete. There is an AutoSave add-in available in Macros9.dot which can be downloaded from: http://word.mvps.org/downloads/ -- Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Any ideas would be welcome! The autorecover doesn't do what you think it does. See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/AutomaticSave.htm for enlightenment. The link to Graham Mayor's site in the last paragraph of that article is a good one, but the site is down today. Give Graham a day or two to sort his ISP problem and then try it. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |

I don't see anything different on his web site that the Word MVP FAQ
downloads page doesn't have. The Downloads page on the Word MVP FAQ site contains a download to Macros9.dot: http://word.mvps.org/downloads/ On Graham's site there are two links to SaveReminder.dot and one for Macros9.dot. You can't use the SaveReminder.dot alone, unless you want to manually customize your toolbar and add the Save Reminder Options command, so one should just download Macros9.dot and run the SaveReminderInstall macro which will take care of all of the installation concerns. IOW, the download on the Word MVP FAQ page is less confusing for those who don't know how the install macro, found in Macros9.dot, and the SaveReminder.dot add-in actually work. -- Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. I have actually added the toolbar function to the SaveReminder.dot already.
I have just updated it to ensure that the toolbar pops up when installed as an add-in as instructed in the readme file that accompanies it in the ZIP. The macros9.dot is linked for convenience. Whether or not the one resource is easier to understand than the other I will leave to others to decide. My web site came back on line yesterday evening and is holding - no word of apology (yet) from the ISP -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Beth Melton wrote: I don't see anything different on his web site that the Word MVP FAQ downloads page doesn't have.
