When I open Word from my desktop is appears to be normal. When I save an
item and open it later it's saved in Word Pad not regular word. Some of the
features are missing in the menu bar above. I went to the options selection
in the Tools Menu item and made sure under the Save tab that it said Word.doc
and it does. But everything still saves in Word pad. How do I fix that?

Check your options to see what is listed under Save Word files as. To do
this, go to Tools, Options, Save and toward the bottom of that tab is Save
Word files as - make sure you have Word document (*.doc) selected.
